In 1997, during my first trip to Ukraine, I read a book called Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret. I was deeply impressed by this man’s willingness to trust God for his needs as a missionary. Hudson Taylor never asked people for money; he made his needs known to God alone. When I read that, I immediately knew that this was what God wanted for my ministry as well. Nearly twelve years later, I can say that God has indeed held up His end of the bargain. Not once have my family and I lacked for any need that we have ever had on the mission field. We make our requests known to our Heavenly Father, and He meets our needs in amazing ways. This post is a small attempt on my part to honor the Lord by documenting some of the ways that He has provided for us in recent weeks. I hope it will be an encouragement to you that our God is very, very faithful.

When God Provides
Monday, March 23rd, 2009Have you read The Law?
Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008With all that’s been going on of late in the political world, I decided to pull out my copy of The Law by Frederic Bastiat and read through it again. The Law is a very short book (sometimes even referred to as “pamphlet”) but it is truly revolutionary in the strictest sense of the word.
Walter Williams, an economics professor at George Mason University, said this in his introduction to The Law:
I must have been forty years old before reading Frederic Bastiat’s classic The Law. An anonymous person, to whom I shall eternally be in debt, mailed me an unsolicited copy. After reading the book, I was convinced that a liberal-arts education without an encounter with Bastiat is incomplete. Reading Bastiat made me keenly aware of all the time wasted, along with the frustrations of going down one blind alley after another, organizing my philosophy of life. The Law did not produce a philosophical conversion for me as much as it created order in my thinking about liberty and just human conduct.
If you love freedom, you will be blessed by reading The Law. Here’s where to get it:
